While the term “Performance Beer” might seem counter intuitive, non-alcoholic beer is an emerging athletic\/energy beverage trend \u2013 thanks, in large part, to one of its active ingredients: malt. While non-alcoholic beers are gaining traction the U.S. as sports beverages, the trend is already strong in other countries. Notably, it has become the beverage of choice for many Olympic athletes in Germany<\/a>. Historically, the taste of non-alcoholic beer has been a challenge.\u00a0 When alcohol is removed during the brewing process, so is the \u201cbeery\u201d flavor, resulting in the beverage earning a bland reputation.\u00a0 So, brewers often\u00a0add malt extract –\u00a0sprouted malt that is\u00a0naturally processed to produce nutrient-dense, natural sweeteners – to beverages like beer, as well as other popular malt-based drinks including Ovaltine, Nestle\u2019s Milo and Kombucha.<\/p>\n
